Pricing has gone absurd, good as it may be the base level price for 18yr is going up and up and up, and most of the time it isn’t justified. I think the industry is in danger of pricing consumers out and pushing people away. Time will tell I guess. Slainte
LOVE this beauty Rob!! I am currently enjoying a Laphroaig 2024 Cairdeas! Delicious!! Peat head here!! lol!!😂
Cognac is all overpriced, made from waste grapes and sugar mash in some swamp in SW France, Just like most french wines, just not worth the buck. Buy a nice brandy made anywhere else instead.
Aint avail at LOCB, Teach ! . . . so rushed, too much beans last nite ??
@@ironmantran it’s a 10 second review homie. Or supposed to be anyway.
lol, can't find this anywhere
I literally just took the last of my bottle camping! 😊
Holy fast, wad up Foojitsu Teach !
😂
y
? Lol
@@WhiskyInThe6 wanted to do the 👍but it wasn't there, now it works but hey, something is better than nothing
I wish I had a few of these instead of only 1 left.
Ya definitely a beauty
Fabulous scotch!!
Agreed
Yes!!👍
👍
Don't think I have a single Kilchoman on the shelf right now. What's the undisputed champ of their line?
I like the Sanaig a lot.
This expression is fabulous!!
Delicious!
Those are interesting nose notes you described. Sounds similar to a bourbon. Most cognacs I’ve tried are heavy fruit with some baking spice.
True
Great review Rob! I’ve got a bottle of 12 year single bourbon cask Kilchoman and it is wonderful. I have very rarely been disappointed by a Kilchoman.
Cheers Kevin
😁🙌🏻🥃
Wonderful bottle from a wonderful distillery. But that price!! I'll stick with the Cask Strength or 100% Islay releases for half the price.
Going to need a review of that meikle toir original in the background just found some on the shelves near me
Coming soon.
Wad up, Boss R ! I used to love KCM in early 2000, since then I never see any age-stated core bottlings, sad . . . I move it to 3rd shelf, below Bowmore now. The odd Sanaig i buy is to serve as base for my vats/blends ... I hate myself.
Kilchoman was founded in 2005 and their first release was a 4 year old in 2009. You weren’t drinking age stated kilchoman in the early 2000’s.
So I learned recently, the whiskys in this bottle total 185 years old - not sure on the age of each malt having said that
👍
Is it possible to get additive free for a bottle closer to $100?
Pretty sure they exist. Just not sure what.
Hello guys. Would you like to have a quick live episode with Jon (whisky neighbour) and talk about your single cask? I am planning to share my bottle with Jon and Jon is very excited about this collab episode idea. I look forward to hear back from you!
Sounds great to me.
If I had to choose I’d grab the Bruichladdich 18 over the Octomore 14.2.
Totally agree
What a spectacular head to head Rob!!! I adore the Bruichladdich18!! Oh do I love it!! I also adore the Octomore 14.2!! I like the green direction that Bruichladdich is taking with the bottle and in many other ways. Very responsible. I have read a lot about it. Great video!! Cheers!! Hey the Laphroaig 18 is spectacular!!
Can’t wait to get my hands on the new 18. Cheers Christine!
How green then, is the glass bottle? How green is the transport, and delivery of the glass bottle? How green is the production of the contents of said glass bottles? Why do you write of green things when your ideas are so black and rotten?
Very exciting!!
Thanks Rob for the great review and the added surprise of the head-to-head with the Bruichladdich 18! Glad I got the 14.3. These reviews save me money, educates, and entertains! Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much for all the support brother. Appreciate you. Cheers!
just finished this self-same bottle, enjoyed it very much. Not quite as good as their 15yo Mortlach though...
Wad up Teach ! so, Wardhead = Fiddich +tea/Balvenie ------------- Aldunie = Kininvie +tea/Balvenie ------- 1 teaspoon=5mL or 0.002% of a hog-cask 250 Litres . . . nice ! (((((((( an old Macallan +tea/xx = "Kintail" )))
Unpeated Islas can be quite something - I’ve had a few from various distilleries and it often impresses. I’ve got a Caol Isla 15 and 18, bought years ago, that are both really impressive. I’d heard the Bruchladdie 18 wasn’t great, but to each his own I guess. Sad to hear about the 14.2 - the octomores are all so wayyyyy overpriced but sometimes they just blow you away. Opened a 9.3 recently and omg delicious. Bought a 14.3 in BC earlier this year and am looking fwd to opening it in due course. Sad they’re almost impossible to get in Ontario now let’s hope for a liberalization of distribution so we get some great independent stores opening !
Great review Rob. Excited to try the Bruichladdich 18. The 14.2 was my least favourite of this years Octomore releases, and the Meikle Toir releases are absolutely a game changer. Cheers buddy.
Colomba pasquale, love that reference. Salud!
Cheers buddy
We tried teh 18 at The Pot Still in Glasgow with the intention of buying it around the corner at The Good Spirits Co for £155 I think. Having tasted it we did not buy it. Thought the last third/finish really let it down being kind of dry/grey. Then we had a dram of SB Local Barley 13 that was filled with magic by comparison. Of course nowhere to buy that one :-)
Interesting
👍
😁🙌🏻🥃
It's interesting to hear how much you liked the bruichladdich 18 bein hearing a lot of reviewers saying they were very underwhelmed by it.
I heard the same
Such a small allocation for AB and no PC18, disappointing! Regarding cask constitution, it's mostly bourbon, with added sauterne and port for sweetness, married together for 9 months before bottling.
Nice. Absolutely delicious stuff.
wad up, Teach ! . . . 7 years ago I projected 18 will be the new 25 : right I was and am/still - - - wait until the 15-16 goes hyperbolic . . . [[ finally, that painted-on drake-beard faded - i see . ... nice (LOL, kidd') ]] . . .
Too many whites now lol
In the liquor stores in Norway they have a whole different category, Cognac Brut, where there are no additives in any of the products. They even test for sugars and mention if any liquor they sell have additives and how many grams per liter, not just Cognac.
This is the way it should be everywhere. Cheers
I don’t know about this. I think this is one of the best whiskies I have had. Reminds me a lot of the Glendronach 18 but has an added dimension of that Campbeltown salinity with an almost salted caramel finish.
I just picked up 4 more bottles of the Balvenie 12 Double Oak for $49.99 USD each because I knew how incredible that price was and loaded up while the getting was good!
Great price
If you can get a bottle of Macallan Rare Cask for under $290 USD then it's really (in my opinion) the bottom floor for where Macallan starts to be amazing. The 12 year, 15 year are just nowhere near as good for what you're paying. The 18 year is good, but then you're paying even more for that than the Rare Cask.
Great video, very fun topic. I don’t think many enthusiasts would choose “20 bottles of Clynelish 14” over the Brora 38…but what if the choice was a set of each of the last 6 or 7 Springbank Local Barley releases? Or maybe 12-14 bottles of different Springbank 12-year old cask strength releases? That might be more of a tempting decision 🤣
Cheers
LCBO had Lagavulin special distillers edition in stock for for 10 minutes, $200
😅
Shockingly good stuff for about $60. Sounds crazy but it really is just as good as many Octomores
This flew off the shelves like a springbank local barley when it was released . In fact , I don’t know if it even made it to the shelves.
wow, over 70ppm, we're over regular heavily peated territory (and young!). This is the Billy Walker distillate, is it not?
It is. Also 71ppm at bottle level
Glad to see that Rob got his wig straighten out.
😉
